RESCUING THE LOST FOREVER
My work is about lost objects and the finding process. The emotional reaction to finding items is dependent on the criteria set when undertaking the project. Decisions are taken to assess whether the item will be recovered or has it been discarded and will someone be missing it. The Rescuing the Lost Forever project documents the finding process through photography and collage by using the images to bring value back to the items in the form of postcards and photo-collages.
The viewers’ identification of similar finds and the recounting of their experiences are part of the development of the work. By interacting with the imagery the viewer is adding value to the ‘lostness’, in a way taking ownership of identity of the items by recognising that they were a part of someone’s life in a previous existence of usefulness.
