Fragments of Memory

Marilyn DeakinMy memories of the past are clarified by their association with my perceptions of the time with the colours and designs of each decade that I have lived through. These start with the 1950s following through to the end of the century and beyond. The colours and materials used in the works have a significance - they are part of the time that my memory is concerned with. This is what 1950 to 2000 onwards means to me:

1950s: a period of austerity
1960s: a time of developing freedom
1970s: liberation and opportunity
1980s: responsibility coming with age
1990s: resignation of limitations
2000 onwards: acceptance of where I am
